A man purposely set himself on fire in a basement of an apartment last week in Teaneck that killed one woman and critically injured another, Bergen County prosecutors announced Friday.
Officials say Ranjodh Singh IV, 35, set himself on fire on Feb. 19. Manjit Kaur, 47, and Manjinder Kaur, 44, were both trapped in the basement when the fire broke out.
Singh died the same day the fire erupted due to his injuries, and Manjinder Kaur died the following day as a result of her injuries, according to officials.
Prosecutors say Singh used an accelerant and purposely set fire to himself. As a result, officials say the fire spread rapidly through the basement and trapped the other two occupants of the apartment.
Manjit Kaur, who survived, remains hospitalized and is still being treated for severe burns she sustained in the fire.
