Man sentenced to 75 years for sexually assaulting 2 girls

A Cumberland County man was sentenced to 75 years in prison for sexually and physically assaulting two juvenile girls, authorities said.
Brian Scherfel, formerly of Millville, was convicted in August 2025 on 13 counts, including multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault, the Cumberland County prosecutor said.
Prosecutors said Scherfel, 34, assaulted one victim between the ages of 8 and 13 from 2017 to 2022 and another victim when she was 6 years old in 2016. The offenses occurred in Millville, according to officials.
Superior Court Judge Niki Arbittier sentenced Scherfel to an aggregate 75-year prison term on Feb. 19, with 67 and 1/2 years to be served before he is eligible for parole, according to officials.
Scherfel will be approximately 101 years old when he becomes eligible for parole in 2093.
