Sentimental treasures that went missing decades ago made their way back to a New Jersey man thanks to the kindness of a stranger.
Dr. Brian Weiner recently received an email from a man in Canada with a picture of a gold watch and college ring. The email asked if the items were his.
The Manalapan gastroenterologist recognized the items as his Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute college ring, and a gold watch that was given to him by his parents when he graduated medical school.
The shiny silver ring had Weiner's name engraved inside with his graduation year on top. The gold Concord watch had words of pride and love inscribed on the back from his parents.
The Canadian man who sent the email said he found the items in a storage bin while cleaning out a vacant apartment for a landlord.
Weiner and his wife Sarah didn't even know the ring had gone missing, and they thought the watch had been lost 23 years ago inside their Marlboro home.
The Weiners will always wonder who stole their keepsakes, but are grateful they're back where they belong.
