A man lost part of his left leg in a fireworks accident on the Fourth of July.
The 52-year-old Leonia man also suffered burns and a compound fracture in the accident at around 9:30 p.m.
According to reports, he lit a firework but then dropped it. When the firework exploded, he was thrown back about 4 feet.
"Fireworks were involved in an estimated 10,500 injuries treated in U.S. hospital emergency departments" in 2014, according to a June 2015 report from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
