Today marks two years since the deadliest attacks against the Jewish community since the Holocaust.
Igor Kimenfeld’s father, Danil, was fishing at Zikim Beach the morning of Oct. 7 when he was killed.
Danil had called his family to say he was sheltering from rocket fire. His car was later found riddled with bullets.
It took nearly three weeks
to confirm Danil’s death through DNA testing. He was one of 1,200 people killed in the invasion.
Igor says his father’s memory guides him daily and credits the local Jewish community for helping his family heal.
He also thinks about the 48 hostages still held in Gaza and hopes they will be freed soon.
One of them, Edan Alexander, returned to Tenafly in June after 584 days in captivity.
Igor says every day feels like Oct. 7 until all hostages are home and the war ends.
