A power outage is to blame for long lines outside the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission office in Freehold Friday morning.
Customers showed up as early as 1 a.m. to get a spot in the line and were told just before 8 a.m. that the facility was closed because there was no power.
A representative from the MVC office told customers who were waiting in line to go to another facility, but the people who were waiting in line for hours refused to leave.
“I got here at 5 a.m. I’m not coming back again,” said Eric Applebaum, who was there to get his first driver’s license.
There have been long lines and lots of frustrations at many of the MVC office across New Jersey ever since the facilities reopened in July.
“It’s totally unacceptable as taxpayers. They get to sit in there with the lights out, getting paid. We are sitting here getting paperwork done. We need service,” said Carla Shawhilyard, of Old Bridge.
The power was restored around 12:30 p.m. and the offices reopened shortly after.
