The president of the Freehold Township Little League has been charged with stealing more than $73,000 from the organization over nearly three years, prosecutors said Friday.

Donald Petito, 42, of Freehold, is charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

Investigators said the case began after a Monmouth County Crime Stoppers tip prompted an inquiry by the prosecutor’s office. The investigation found that beginning in March 2022, Petito allegedly submitted fraudulent reimbursement requests to the league for purchases that either had inflated values or were never made.

Authorities also allege that Petito stole money from the league’s Venmo account by transferring funds to his personal Venmo account and then moving the money to a business account under his control.

Petito was served with the charge by summons on Thursday and is awaiting future proceedings in Monmouth County Superior Court.
