Storms today are expected to bring damaging, gusty winds across parts of New Jersey, including Monmouth County, which is expected to see the worst of the severe weather.
Winds have been steadily gusting in the 30 and 40 mph range, and earlier this morning at the Shark River Municipal Marina, rain came down heavy and the winds began increasing. The worst could arrive by early afternoon, especially if any thunderstorms develop.
Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden says they are prepared for high winds and ensured JCP&L is ready in case of tree and power line damage. Sheriff Golden also stressed the importance, especially today, of simply staying home.
"Listen, stay home,” says Sheriff Golden. “I know this has been a tough time with the messaging, but it's working. We see that so we want to see it level off in terms of the pandemic, again, it should only be essential personnel. We usually talk about that during only snowstorms with essential personnel, but with the pandemic it is essential personnel. We want them to be careful on the road and get them to where they need to go."
Similar conditions are in Wall Township, as rain continues to fall and winds continue to increase.
