Rough surf prevented people from entering the ocean in Point Pleasant Beach Sunday as the National Weather Service issued a rip current warning.
While Manasquan swimmers were allowed in the water, many were working hard to stay safe, with lifeguards directing swimmers and keeping a close eye out.
Lifeguard officials say in order to stay safe at the beach, visitors must follow one basic rule: don’t go in the water without a lifeguard watching.
"If the lifeguards are not on duty, I don't care how good of a swimmer you are -- just don't go in," says Manasquan beach manager Wally Wall.
