As the state continues to struggle with its economy and a budget deficit, lawmakers in Trenton have been debating the merits of more trivial matters such as a state song and licensing barbers.
Lawmakers decided a vote on naming a state song should be tabled for the time being. Residents worried about their pocketbooks say government officials should be more focused on the problems at hand.
"We have a lot more important things to deal with," says Robert Ruffin, of Waterford.
Sen. Loretta Weinberg shares that view and asked if the discussion could be put on hold until the economy recovers.
The discussion will turn to more serious topics Thursday, when the Assembly will convene to consider Gov. Jon Corzine's economic plan.
