A Democratic lawmaker is throwing his support behind a bill that would allow undocumented immigrants to apply for driver’s licenses.
Assemblyman John McKeon held a question and answer session about it Monday night.
McKeon says many people are already on the roads with unregistered and uninsured cars.
"To live here in New Jersey, you need a car to get to a job to get where you need to be,” says McKeon. “So there's an estimate of tens of thousands of individuals just driving without licenses."

If approved, the licenses could only be used for driving.
It wouldn't be valid for voting or getting on a plane.
