Federal agents were deliberately blowing things up today in Monmouth County in an effort to keep the public safe.

Dozens of law enforcement agencies took part in an explosives training course at Naval Weapons Station Earle in Colts Neck. The exercise was hosted by the TSA out of Newark Airport. News 12 New Jersey was invited to take part.

Students included everyone from local police and NJ Transit officers to federal air marshals and local TSA screeners. Each were on hand to learn how to better save lives.

The course was one week long, with different agencies participating each day. The experts detonated about 19 different bombs, each similar to those used in real-life scenarios like the shoe bomb, underwear bomb and a suicide vest.
