A Middlesex County law clerk has resigned from her job after coming under fire for controversial comments she made about the death of a New Jersey state trooper.

A spokeswoman for the New Jersey Judiciary says Leslie Anderson handed in her letter of resignation from clerking for Judge Travis Francis. Her resignation is effective immediately.

Anderson allegedly posted comments on a News 12 New Jersey report about the death of Trooper Anthony Raspa. Posts attributed to Anderson said that Raspa's death was "not that sad and certainly not tragic."

Other commenters on the story admonished Anderson for the remarks. The comments posted on the news story have since been deleted, but not before various members of law enforcement took screengrabs and distributed them around social media. 

Anderson's Facebook page has also been disabled.

New Jersey State Policemen's Benevolent Association President Patrick Colligan sent a letter to Judge Francis about Anderson. In the letter, Colligan called Anderson's actions "beyond reprehensible."

Trooper Raspa's wake was held Wednesday. Funeral services will be held Thursday in New Brunswick.
