A 51-year-old man from Lakehurst is charged with vehicular homicide following a fatal crash in July.
Prosecutors say the incident happened during the early morning on July 31, when Douglas Smith struck 50-year-old Allen Adam. When he was discovered by police, he was lying in the roadway with serious injuries and later pronounced dead at Community Medical Center in Toms River.
While Adams was working in a construction zone on Lakewood Road, he was struck by Smith, who was traveling north on Lakewood Road.
The investigation later found that Smith had alcohol, cocaine, fentanyl and methadone in his system.
He was transported to the Ocean County Jail, where he awaits a detention hearing.
