A Bergen County pool is being forced to close its gates early this summer due to a lack of lifeguards.
People who hope to spend the last weekend of summer swimming at Walsh Pool are out of luck. The pool will close its doors on Aug. 25, a week earlier than it was originally scheduled to.
Pool officials blame the early closing on the fact that some of the lifeguards are starting college. Others are attending high school sports camps. Either way, there will not be enough lifeguards to keep the pool open.
Pool members aren?t entirely out of luck. Walsh memberships will be honored at Memorial Pool for the remainder of the swim season. According to a Recreation Department spokesman, Walsh?s remaining lifeguards will also be transferred to Memorial for the rest of the season.
Memorial Pool is also honoring memberships from Paramus, whose pool closed down earlier this season. The pool is expecting high traffic Labor Day weekend.
