Police say a child was charged days after making a threat at a middle school in Warren Township, Somerset County.

Warren Middle School received a voicemail Friday from a person threatening to blow up the building, according to authorities.

Warren Township police officers and officers from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office and Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office K9 Units responded to the threat while the school initiated their evacuation procedures.

After an extensive search of the entire school, police say they determined the threat was not credible and discovered that a child called it in, attempting to have school close for the day.

The minor is being charged with false public alarm in the third degree, on a juvenile delinquency summons. A future court date will be determined.

Anyone with additional information relating to this incident is asked to contact the Warren Township Police Department at 908-753-1000 or via the STOPit app.
