The fate of a man accused of killing a Tinton Falls teacher is now in the hands of a jury.
Michael LaSane had confessed to the 1996 murder of Kathleen Weinstein, but an appeals court threw out the confession. During closing arguments at LaSane?s trial Tuesday, his defense attorney maintained his client?s innocence and said there are numerous holes in the prosecution?s case.
The prosecution argued to the jury that LaSane?s story doesn?t add up. LaSane has said that his brother committed the murder, but prosecutors say several witnesses didn?t see the brother at the crime scene.
The case drew nationwide attention because Weinstein secretly recorded conversations with her accused killer. Those tapes were played for the jury during LaSane?s trial.
