Jury ends 1st day of deliberations in case against bomber without verdict
Jurors in the attempted murder trial of a New Jersey man already convicted of planting bombs in New York City have ended their first day of deliberations.
The panel of eight women and four men asked for a re-showing of a surveillance video in the attempted murder trial of Ahmad Khan Rahimi.
The video showed a running gun battle through the streets of Linden in 2016 between Rahimi and police officers.
Rahimi’s attorney has argued his client acted in self-defense.
A New York jury convicted Rahimi last year of setting off a pressure cooker device, injuring 30 people. A second bomb failed to go off.
The government contends Rahimi also set a small pipe bomb along the Semper Five Marine Charity 5K route in Seaside Park hours before the New York explosion. No one was hurt.
Rahimi is serving two life sentences for the New York bombing. Federal charges in the New Jersey bombing are still pending.
The Associated Press wire services contributed to this report.
