JERSEY CITY (AP) - A New Jersey judge won't block plans to build a new marina in Liberty State Park.
Jersey City officials had argued that the proposed deal between the state and Suntex Marinas was invalid because the state didn't seek bids for the project. But the judge ruled Friday that the state wasn't required to seek bids in this case.
City officials also argued that the environment and the public's interest were in "immediate jeopardy" if the proposal advanced. But the judge noted the marina plans must still go through a public hearing process that will allow the public to raise any concerns.
The Department of Environmental Protection, which oversees the 1,200-acre state park, and Suntex reached a tentative deal last month that would allow the firm to expand its existing marina there and also build a new, 45-acre marina.
