Extra security measures are put in place for one of the biggest fireworks displays in the Garden State.
Thousands of people are expected to attend the fireworks show at Liberty State Park in Jersey City on the Fourth of July. In light of the recent bomb scares in the United Kingdom, the city and police have decided to increase security to keep those in attendance safe.
?We?re not only going to have police, JCPD, on all the perimeters of Liberty State Park, but there?s going to be extra manpower on all the streets of Jersey City,? Mayor Jerry Healy said.
City officials say parking may be difficult. Those planning to attend are urged to take light rail to the Liberty State Park stop, where free shuttles will head into the park for the show. City officials add that alcohol and propane are not allowed in the park, but charcoal is permitted for barbecuing.
The fireworks are set to go off around 8:40 p.m. and can be seen for miles along the Hudson River. This year, the fireworks will go off on land across from the Statue of Liberty and not a barge.
