The owner of a Jersey City building that caught on fire earlier this month has been issued a fine, according to city officials.
Officials say that the owner was doing roof work without the proper permits on April 3. The fire started two days later on April 5.
The fire destroyed three homes and displaced nearly 20 people. The Jersey City Fire Prevention and Arson Unit ruled the fire to be accidental. The cause is still under investigation.
The owner was fined double the cost of the permit fee.
