Nothing seems to have gotten in the way of the Fourth of July party at Liberty State Park in Jersey City despite wet weather and controversy.
This year?s fireworks had to be set off on land. New York said Jersey City could not use a barge in the Hudson River. Some blame the influence of the much bigger and close by Macy's fireworks show for the decision to turn down Jersey City.
?The 1834 treaty has been pulled out to prevent us from going into the river,? Maryanne Kelleher-Arango, of Jersey City Cultural Affairs, said. ?We?ve done it from land before [and] we?ll do it again safely.?
Mother Nature did not get in the way of the celebration either. The Freedomfest Concert, Fourth of July fireworks and barbecue went on as planned, even though the weather did not turn out as many would have liked.
