Every year the Eastern States Exposition brings people together from all over New England for one of the biggest fairs in America. Wednesday is Connecticut Day at the Big E in West Springfield, Massachusetts.
This is the 108th year of the Big E. It is a staple if you live in any of the six New England States.
Every year the Big E offers food, fun and entertainment.
"It started as an agricultural fair and now being in these individual state buildings you could see all the small businesses that produce products in the state," said Anthony Anthony, Chief Marketing Officer for the state of Connecticut.
Many of those small businesses are the backbone of our state and here they get to show us what they have.
"It's a chance for these businesses to connect with people. Not only put their product on display but really get that brand awareness that can build lifelong relationships and keep their business afloat," said Anthony.
Connecticut is the basketball capital of the United States. So there's a UConn basketball uniform and one of NCAA National Championship trophies. Connecticut is also known for its air and space technology. You can sit in a plane.
Of course Connecticut is also the pizza capital of the United States. So there is going to be pizza. Frank Pepe's is here to celebrate 100 years in business. Recently Connecticut put up these pizza billboards in New York City and they caused quite a stir.
"Your hotline got a few interesting messages. Just a couple. My favorite was the person who called late at night and was clearly intoxicated and wished that we would die," said Anthony. The Big E runs until Sunday, Sept. 28.
Tickets are available at the gates and at www.thebige.com
