New Jersey state troopers seize over $48 million worth of marijuana, THC, and THC/cannabis products from a tractor-trailer in Greenwich Township.
The trailer was driven by Vethanayagam Venches and Mohamed Nawshad, both from Texas.
State police were conducting a commercial vehicle inspection at the time.
During the investigation, officers said that they could smell the scent of marijuana, combined with other indicators of trafficking activity, leading them to search the trailer. Officials say the troopers found about 7,645 pounds of hydroponic marijuana, 44,456 THC vape cartridges, 9,572 packages of THC gummies, 59 liters of cannabis resin and 83 THC-infused cigarette packages.
Both Venches and Nawshad were charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and other substance-related offenses.
They are currently being held at the Warren County Correctional Center while they wait for a detention hearing.
