New Jersey is in the middle of a heat wave as temperatures reached above 90 degrees in Newark for the third day in a row.
Meteorologists often reference temperatures at Newark Liberty International Airport because they say that it is the hottest location in the New York/New Jersey metro area. This is because between the airport, New Jersey Turnpike and the shipping port, it is a large area of asphalt that holds in the heat.
It was so hot on Monday that News 12 New Jersey’s Brian Donohue wondered if he could reheat Friday’s leftover pizza that he brought Monday for lunch.
Placing the pizza on some aluminum foil out in the parking lot – the cheese on the pizza really did melt and the pizza did get warm enough to eat.
Donohue also called his older brother Billy, who loves when temperatures get into the 90s in New Jersey. Billy lives in Ireland and his annual summer trip to New Jersey was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Billy said that he was disappointed by the temperatures in Ireland right now, which are more spring-like at 60 degrees or so.
