The incident took place at a home on Chelsea Avenue in Long Branch.
Investigators say the suspect shot the officer in the lower body and then barricaded themselves inside the home.
The standoff between the suspect of police continued into the night. There is no word on the status of the standoff as of this morning.
Police are asking the public to avoid the area.
