(06/01/06) MANAHAWKIN ? Investigators examined wreckage and hauled away debris Thursday from the site of a fatal plane crash in Manahawkin.
A gravel road had to be constructed in order for workers to reach the wreckage in a wooded area. According to investigators, the Atlantic City-bound plane left Old Bridge at approximately 10:15 a.m. Wednesday. At 10:43 a.m., local police began getting reports of an aircraft explosion in the skies above Manahawkin.
Ronald and Rachel Ziv, along with David and Karen Nimrod, died in the crash. The remains of all the victims have been recovered. Police say the crash impact thrust the victims forward into the plane's engine block. National Transportation and Safety Board (NTSB) officials say they are investigating the weather during the flight, communications, pilot history and pilot experience. They say Ronald Ziv did not report any problems while piloting the aircraft.
NTSB investigators say they have recovered the majority of the airplane. They plan on moving the wreckage to a secure Delaware location. The plane did not have a flight data recorder, known as a black box, on board due to its size. According to the NTSB, it will take investigators 12 to 18 months to determine a probable cause.
