Repairs are underway at a Hindu temple in Robbinsville following a fire that broke out Wednesday.

According to the Robbinsville Township Fire Department, crews responded to the BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham facility following reports of a building fire. The department said first responders faced issues accessing the fire location when they arrived at BAPS, which is the largest Hindu temple in the United States.

"Arriving personnel were confronted with access challenges given the location of the fire and were required to stretch several handlines through stairwells, multiple floors, and long distances," the fire department said in a statement on social media. "Upon accessing the area fire was found on a roof which had extended behind the facade of the building spanning several floors."

Multiple fire departments also responded to assist Robbinsville crews. They spent more than an hour trying to extinguish the fire, which found its way into some empty spaces in the building that were challenging for firefighters to reach.

The fire department said an investigation determined that the fire was accidental, and no injuries were reported.
