A West Milford man is accused of attempting to engage in sexual conduct with a 17-year-old student he was giving private music lessons to, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

John Bendzak, 72, was arrested Wednesday and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and stalking.

Prosecutors say investigators were notified July 22 that Bendzak had tried to have an inappropriate relationship with the teenager. Investigators allege Bendzak communicated with the student in June and tried to engage in sexual conduct with the teen July 9 at a West Milford residence.

Bendzak is also accused of sending harassing messages to the teen after the July 9 incident. He was arrested Wednesday morning near Morsetown Road in West Milford.

Bendzak was scheduled to appear in court Thursday and was expected to be released on pretrial monitoring.
