Authorities in Monmouth County are trying to determine a motive in a deadly shooting in Aberdeen.
Investigators say 22-year-old William Karecki was found Sunday evening shot to death in a parking lot not far from his home.
Monmouth County prosecutors say the Old Bridge Township man was found at around 9:45 p.m. Sunday by Aberdeen Township police. They were responding to a 911 call about a shooting in the parking lot off Ocean Boulevard in the Cliffwood Beach section of Aberdeen.
"Police cars started going down the street, and one of the kids said they saw [my son's] car surrounded by police," says Ed Karecki, the victim's father. "Me and my older boy went down there but it was too late. He was gone."
William Karecki had been shot several times and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Further details about the shooting have not been disclosed, including what type of weapon was used or how many shooters may have been involved.
Karecki was arrested along with two other people in July and charged with assault and robbery at a Toms River hotel. Police have not said if the deadly shooting is related to this incident.
No arrests have been made in Karecki's murder at this time.
Karecki's father says that he wants answers for what happened to his son.
"We left the light on for him and he's still not home," Ed Karecki says. "He's not coming home again."
Anyone with information should contact Detective Patrick Petruzziello, of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, at 1-800-533-7443 or Detective Anthony Valentino, of the Aberdeen Township Police Department, at 732-583-4200, ext 205.
A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
