Fire investigators are trying to determine what caused an early morning house fire in Paterson.

Officials say the fire broke out in a multi-family home on Seventh Street at around 3:40 a.m.

Investigators say a family of five barely made it out of the house in time, and the father of the family had to be taken to the hospital in critical condition. The mother and three children only suffered minor injuries.
