Authorities say an insect contributed to a fatal car crash in Ocean County because the driver and his passenger became distracted while swatting at it.
The prosecutor's office says the car driven by 19-year-old Dylan Magee of Millstone crossed the center line on Route 539 in Plumsted Township on Nov. 9 and collided head-on with a tractor-trailer.
The passenger in the car, 18-year-old Alexander Pannizzo of Millstone, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Magee and the truck driver were taken to hospitals with injuries that were described as not life-threatening.
