An immigrant living in the U.S. illegally, who was deported twice before, has admitted to sexually assaulting and then strangling a woman from Jersey City.
Jorge Rios-Doblado, of Jersey City, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree aggravated sexual assault related to the death of Carolina Cano, 45, of Jersey City.
The incident happened in the early morning hours of March 24, 2019 at Lincoln Park. Cano’s body was found in a lake at the park.
If convicted, Rios could face 30 years in prison.
Cano came to the U.S. from Peru and was working as a live-in nanny. On weekends, she lived elsewhere in Jersey City with roommates. Her roommates previously told News 12 that she would often go for Sunday morning runs in Lincoln Park before church.
