Jersey City police raided Jersey City Fire Department headquarters earlier this week as part of an investigation into overtime and vacation time.
The president of the Jersey City Firefighters Union, Joe Kranjnik, says police seized several computers with payroll records during the raid. Fire officials say investigators are looking into possible abuses of overtime, vacation pay and comp time.
Kranjnik says he is furious with the way police handled the raid. He says the investigation involves a few people, but the way it was handled makes every Jersey City firefighter look bad.
The Hudson County prosecutor says right now the case isn?t a criminal investigation. He adds that it probably won?t become one either. There is no word on how widespread the probe is or who exactly is the target.
