A Hunterdon County teen died in a ski accident at a Pennsylvania ski resort on New Year’s Day.
Carbon County Coroner Robert Miller Jr. on Wednesday identified the victim as 17-year-old Connor Golembiewski of Flemington. Miller says the teen suffered multiple blunt force injuries after falling off a chair lift at Blue Mountain Resort near Palmerton.
Blue Mountain Resort spokeswoman Tricia Matsko says the victim was injured around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. He was taken to Palmerton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities say that they aren't sure if the teen was wearing his lap harness. Miller ruled the death an accident.
Golembiewski was a junior at Hunterdon Central Regional High School. Students returned from winter break Wednesday to the news that the teen had died.
“The mood was very soft and everything,” says junior Matthew Ciszkowski. “Nobody really laughed and stuff. It was like a different mood.”
The school held a moment of silence in Golembiewski’s honor.
“He was super kind and always would greet everyone with a smile. It was awesome to know him,” says junior Aidan Rourke.
Golembiewski played ice hockey for the New Jersey Renegades and had been a part of the program since he was 9 years old, according to a Facebook post.
“He was a loyal, hardworking, respectful player that gave his all every time he came to the rink,” a post on the New Jersey Renegades Facebook page said.
