The crash happened on I-78 west in Clinton before 4 a.m. Sunday.
State troopers say Derek Thomas lost control of his Buick, ran off the roadway and hit a guardrail.
Thomas, who is from Pennsylvania, was taken to a nearby hospital.
State police are currently investigating.
