A massive fire broke out in Belleville, New Jersey, at a commercial mattress warehouse complex, rapidly escalating into a multi-alarm emergency that drew firefighters from across the region.
The fire started at a mattress company site involving approximately 3–4 warehouses in the complex. Strong winds quickly became a major problem for firefighters, helping spread flames and making containment more difficult.
Officials reported two secondary fires sparked by embers carried from the main blaze. The situation was further complicated by hazardous materials on site, including oxygen tanks and helium tanks, raising concerns about potential explosions.
A nearby cardboard factory was identified as a major concern due to the intensity and spread of the fire. Fire crews also faced a significant lack of water pressure during the operation.
The Department of Public Works (DPW) attempted to address the issue by tapping into a larger water main to improve water supply for firefighting efforts.
Mutual aid was called in from multiple nearby municipalities, including Newark, Bloomfield, Orange, and Lyndhurst, all of which assisted the scene as the fire continued to grow.
