One Ocean County town is hoping to run nuisance birds out the area by using man's best friend.

Toms River's Huddy Park has a major geese problem. After failed attempts with grass treatments and a sound machine, officials have decided to bring in dogs.

The island section of the park will soon become an off-leash area. Thirty residents will be given permits to let their dogs run around in hopes of scaring the geese away.

"It's worked in Lavallette and a couple other towns, so we're hopeful that maybe that would help," Mayor Tim Kelaher said.

Officials are hoping to have the program up and running in the near future.
Anyone interested in getting an off-leash permit for their dog at Huddy Park is asked to call the township to sign up.
