Yesterday, the U.S. House passed a bipartisan financial overhaul on the United States Postal Service, which politicians call a lifeline and will save the agency from bankruptcy.
The bill focuses on three major points which include improving reliability and transparency of service, speeding up delivery, and improving worker and retiree benefits.
Over the next decade, the bill will also allow all future and current postal retirees to enter Medicare Part B, which saves the postal service $22 billion.
It frees USPS from pre-funding retiree health benefits 75 years in advance, which saves $27 billion over the next decade.
The bill also requires the post office to deliver mail and packages at least six days a week.
Now the bill heads to the Senate.
