Immigrant rights activists are condemning what they call a brutal arrest made by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials Monday afternoon.
It happened around 1 p.m. on the first floor of the Stamford Superior Court parking garage.
Video appears to show four ICE agents - three of which are wearing FBI vests - apprehending a man on the ground as he cries out for help.
The man is then lifted up off the ground and put into the backseat of a black car.
"They manhandled him trying to get him out of the car," witness Lizzie Eifler says. "This poor man's face was smashed into the pavement and they would not get off of him."
The organization Stamford Norwalk United for Immigrants says it's witnessing arrests like this on a regular basis.
"There's not much we can do except document it, but what we're seeing is horrifying," Eifler says. "As far as we know, they don't have warrants, nobody shows a badge, nothing."
Stamford police responded to the scene to control the crowd that had built up.
ICE had not responded to our request for comment as of Monday evening.
No word yet on who the man is or why he was arrested.
