The debate over a proposed homeless shelter in heating up in Asbury Park.
The Jersey Shore Rescue Mission, which already provides food to the needy, wants to give homeless men in New Jersey beds and cots to sleep on for up to 10 days.
But opponents fear the building would potentially give pedophiles access to children in the area. They add that since the shelter wouldn?t be performing background checks, no one would know whether the shelter would be housing criminals.
Additionally, they note that the shelter won?t be licensed for substance abuse counseling.
Others say opponents of the proposed shelter are only worried about property tax values and not the good of the community, and note that the building would be located in a light industrial area.
