A joint effort from Amtrak police, all the way to Homeland Security, happened at many train stations today where several safety drills took place.

The exercises take place several times a year, but officials chose today because they knew they'd see an uptick in commuters heading into the city for the U.S. women's soccer team parade.

At several train stations in New Jersey, including the metro park in Iselin, a heavy police presence was around for the morning commute.

K-9s conducted sweeps while state troopers, NJ Transit, Amtrak and homeland security made their rounds as well.

They were once again stressing the See Something, Say Something campaign and said even if the majority are false alarms, they always welcome vigilante commuters.

"I'll speak for the time as director in the last two and a half years,” says NJ Office of Homeland Security Director Jared Maples. “I'll tell you we've seen a huge uptick in not only reporting but also incidents that we believed we stopped. Not only, a suspicious bag left in a terminal or a train station all the way up to the way someone is behaving, the way they're talking about things in a different way of making threatening statements."

Similar drills took place at Newark Penn Station as well.
