A grand jury has indicted a home health aide who New Jersey prosecutors say was captured on hidden camera abusing an Alzheimer's patient.
Authorities said 59-year-old Carla Caraballo is charged with neglect of an elderly or disabled person by a caretaker.
Caraballo worked at a senior living community in Denville where she cared for the 91-year-old, who had dementia and Alzheimer's. The woman's family had installed hidden surveillance equipment to monitor her care.
Prosecutors said the camera captured Caraballo neglecting to help the woman, who fell and hit her head as she rose from bed in July 2016. The incident led the state to create a safe care cam program in which hidden cameras are loaned when abuse is suspected.
A message was left for Caraballo's public defender.
