It's a big night for traveling ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Transportation Security Administration says that Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday will be the busiest travel days of the holiday weekend. They are expecting a record number of travelers, with more than 2.8 million people screening on Tuesday and a growing number on Wednesday.

Before the holiday, the Federal Aviation Administration warned about staffing issues, saying travelers may experience flight delays. They are encouraging people to allow for extra time at the airport.

News 12 spoke to travelers flying out for Thanksgiving. They said that while they are aware of the usual holiday travel issues, they are not overly concerned.

“I know it's a busy time of year, but it's OK. We're all good," said Kenzie Nazionaoe.

“I'm a little nervous, but I think I'll be fine," said Juliette Gonsalves.

AAA says about 6 million Americans are expected to fly somewhere, and over 160,000 New Jersey residents.

AAA also says that 1.8 million New Jersey residents will be driving 50 miles or more to their holiday destinations. The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in New Jersey is now $2.92 – 36 cents less than last year, according to AAA.

New Jersey Transit is also providing extra service for the holiday. There will be extra trains and buses into New York City on Thanksgiving Day for the Macy’s parade. Extra bus service will also be offered on Black Friday.

Rail service will also operate on a weekend major holiday schedule with additional service for those who have to go to work.
