The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which owns Newark Airport, estimates 3.2 million people will travel for the Thanksgiving holiday across its four airports between Nov. 27 and Dec. 2.
The TSA says Tuesday is expected to the busiest travel day for flyers. Officials advise holiday travelers make sure to be patient.
The Federal Aviation Administration says it may have to slow down air traffic for holiday travel times because of air traffic controller staffing shortages, particularly in the Northeast for safety reasons.
Many at Newark on Saturday were looking to get ahead of the long lines and beat the traffic.
"Everybody's, I think right now at the point where they just want to go and let loose and I think quality time is everyone’s thing right now. Let's just have a good time and enjoy what we can," said Carissa Martinez, of Secaucus.
Officials advise to avoid any issues and arrive well before the plane is scheduled to take off.
Also, make sure to download the airport and the airline's app to stay ahead of any delays or cancellations.
