After a previously antagonistic relationship, Hoboken and taxi-service Uber are joining forces with the opening of a new Uber Partner Support Center.

The Washington Street facility will serve as a resource center for the approximately 9,000 New Jersey Uber drivers. The center is designed to help partners navigate any problems they may encounter.

"Fifty-six percent of Hoboken residents take public transportation every day. That's more than any other city in the entire country," says Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer. "Having Uber as a transportation option is extremely important."

Mayor Zimmer and other Hoboken officials praised the taxi-service mobile app, saying that it has helped improve the quality of life in Hoboken.

It was previously illegal for Uber to operate in Hoboken. A city ordinance did not allow drivers to pick up fares if they were not licensed by the city. Mayor Zimmer has been an advocate of the service for some time and fought to get the ordinance changed.
