The elevator at a Highbridge apartment complex along East Clark Pake has been out of service following a malfunction on Oct. 23, when a person got stuck inside, according to Wavecrest Management.
Jeffery Holloway is a tenant who lives on the sixth floor and says he depends on a wheelchair to travel. He says he hasn't been able to leave his apartment to go to his routine physical therapy appointments due to the elevator outage.
Wavecrest Management posted a letter on the elevator door saying it is working with a company to fix the elevator. The letter also has a phone number for an on-site evacuation chair, but Holloway claims the service after calling the number has not been reliable.
"Now you have to call this number. so they have to come up from the basement to your floor and then take you down. but they're refusing to, bring my wheelchair up and down the stairs.," shared Holloway.
Wavecrest Management released a statement to News 12 saying in part:
Following the recent elevator malfunction, our third-party service contractor was on-site the next day and promptly ordered the necessary replacement parts. Repairs will begin as soon as the parts arrive, with service anticipated to be restored within approximately one to two weeks. In the meantime, we've arranged for three staff members to be available daily from 9:00am to 9:00pm, Monday through Sunday. They are assisting residents with the evacuation chair and helping carry groceries, packages, wheelchairs, and other items up and down the stairs. For assistance outside of these hours, residents may contact the super directly.
