Science, technology and fun take center stage together this weekend at the 13th Annual New Jersey First Robotics Competition.
The annual competition pits students from Canada to Virginia against each other to see who can build the best robot. About 2,000 students from 61 high school teams are competing this year.
Though all participants need to wear goggles as a safety precaution, wild spirits and fashion statements dominate the yearly event.
"It gets pretty intense," says Emily Masson, of Team Panther Robotics. "You'll see people walking around in crazy outfits and cheering all day."
The winning teams will move forward to the national championships in Atlanta. That event will take place in April.
