Heavy showers on Sunday led to flooding and slick road conditions in some Monmouth County communities.
In Tinton Falls, drivers on Hope Road near Pine Lane took chances driving through flooding, like Benjamin Scherr, whose car ended up damaged.
“Second we get out of puddle, the car stalled, stopped," he said.
In Highlands, Shannon McGuirl and Glenn O’Connell drove through a flooded Route 36. When they got to Bay Avenue, they encountered more flooding and a man whose car had stalled.
“There was an old man. We saw him coming in his car and his lights went off, and I looked and her and I was like, 'He just died,'" O’Connell said.
"We got to save him. He was all alone, and we ended up turning around and helping him,” McGuirl added. She and O’Connell then drove the man home.
Flooding was not the only issue as slick roads led to accidents, according to one flatbed driver.
“Cars flooded, cars in the woods --- you name it, we’ve seen it. It’s been busy, crazy... The [Garden State] Parkway, it was just so slippery, they're cars flying off into the woods,” said Matt McCarthy, of Taylors Towing.
