There is an EXTREME HEAT WARNING, HEAT ADVISORIES, AIR QUALITY ALERTS all in effect for NJ today.
FORECAST:
High temperatures surge to 99 degrees today with feel like temperatures as high as 105 degrees. This heat and humidity finally take its toll on the atmosphere with a few pop-up thunderstorms in South Jersey after 3 p.m.
A cluster of thunderstorms moves into South Jersey from the Philadelphia area, creating distant thunderstorms for us. These distant thunderstorms create lightning that can be seen from Central New Jersey. This is not "heat lightning" - since that's just a myth - it's just distant thunderstorms! Heat alone cannot produce lightning by itself.
Temperatures and humidity levels fall to a comfortable range tomorrow, with highs in the lower 80s. Some spots will be in the upper 70s, like in northern New Jersey.
There will be more clouds, and a "back door" front comes through from the northeast bringing down temperatures more into Friday. This northeasterly wind offers much relief but at the expense of the sun. There will be a mostly cloudy sky with periods of on and off light rain showers. A few embedded thunderstorms are possible, but not too likely.
The weekend looks decent with a mix of sun and clouds for Saturday with a late day thunderstorm. Sunday looks better with a mix of sun and clouds and highs return back to the mid-80s.
